The food is great as always! Go for the cheese steak deluxe (with extra mushrooms) or the mushroom steak. Love the onion rings and fair style fries as well. Love the pick up window!
I'm 54 years old now and I remember The Hero House since my childhood. They used to be in Wadsworth at the square when I was a child and my last cheese steak sandwich was as good as my first. I drive from Mansfield to Wooster just to get my cheese steak sandwich. I love the Hero House.
Far exceeded my expectations. Got the Philly, easily in my top 3 of best Phillies I've ever had . Fair fries were excellent!!!!
My wife and I live in Crestline, so we have recently been making excuses to drive to Wooster just so we can get Sandwiches at the Hero House We usually will get meatball and cheese with fresh housemade meatballs, lots of sauce and lots of cheese, and a cheesesteak sandwich of some sort This is a great and honest family run business, not some large chain where everything has to be done a certain way. You pay a little more maybe for getting a sandwich here but the sandwiches we have a gotten have all been made with love and they are just so good Just a little hole in the wall establishment but the food is well worth it!
The cheesesteaks are TO DIE FOR. I also love the french fries. Definitely go here is you want a fresh sub that is big enough for lunch and dinner!
I recently ordered a 7.5" Cheese Steak Deluxe Hero Sub, a Small Fresh Cut Fry, and a Small Mr. Pibb / Dr. Pepper. It was all pretty great. I would order these items again. It was prepared and handed off quickly. I particularly liked the rather nostalgic artwork / photos framed on the walls.
Great food and large portions for the price highly recommend!! Great staff was very friendly and helped me decide what to get based off of their favorites
4 stars because they are outrageously expensive but mushroom steak is also outrageously good. A bit on the slow side but food is of high quality.
I want to start out by saying that I love the Hero House, and their food is top notch. I've been a customer since 1993. The place really hasn't changed in 30 years, and it doesn't need to. I live in Cleveland, and will drive down to Wooster just to grab lunch a couple times a year. Their sandwiches are amazing. It's a one of a kind, independent small business, and I love to give them support whenever I can, and they always seem happy to see me when I walk in. My only complaint, and it's a major one, is that since the pandemic, they have been very irregular with their business hours. They say that this is because of staffing problems. But the pandemic lockdown ended years ago, and they still struggle to find enough people to work for them to keep to their posted hours. I don't think you can blame the pandemic for this any longer. It has to be the pay. If they paid the staff enough to retain them and stay open, I bet they'd make up for it by not losing sales opportunities that they can't take advantage of because they're not open. In the last 2 years, I've driven down there at least a dozen times, if not more, hoping to get a sandwich for lunch or dinner, only to find out after driving an hour to get there that they weren't open, because they decided to close the shop early, or because they decided to take the day off. I've only managed to eat there twice in the last two years, and if I do the math it seems like they're open only about 10% of the time when I've tried to eat there. It's sad. I'm afraid if they don't turn it around soon, they won't be open in another year or so, if not sooner. I'm rating them 5 stars in this review because I don't want the review to hurt their business further. They need customers. Go there, order, eat, enjoy. Just call first and make sure they're really open. But if I'm being honest, their tendency to never be open when I try to go there during normal hours makes my real rating 2 stars. I hope they read this and decide to do something to keep to their posted schedule, and drum up the sales volume they need to pay their staff well enough to keep the place open when it's supposed to be.
